Maddy was born and raised in Wausau, WI. She attended undergrad at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN, where she was a chemistry major with a biochemistry emphasis and a biology and english minor. Her undergraduate research focused on the interaction between copper ions and zinc finger proteins. After graduating, she spent one more year at Macalester teaching general and organic chemistry labs. Maddy’s interest in metalloenzymes is what initially drew her to the Buller lab. When she’s not thinking about chemistry, Maddy absolutely loves international travel, painting, and surrounding herself with plants!
